Who is Rob Owen?
Robert "Rob" Owen is a professional darts player from Bridgend in south Wales, born in 1984. He throws right-handed. His nickname comes from the way his darts land in the board, stacked on top of or below each other, which a friend at his local pub picked up on. He started playing at about 19, when his pub team was a player short.
He turned professional in January 2014 after winning a day at PDC Q-School. Away from the oche he works part-time as a delivery driver for the supermarket chain Iceland.
How did Rob Owen break through?
His first big televised run came at the 2018 UK Open, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to Corey Cadby. After losing his Tour Card, he won his way back through the 2022 Challenge Tour. He won Challenge Tour 16 in Leicester, beating Christian Kist 5-2 in the final for his first PDC title, and finished second on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit. That earned him a two-year Tour Card and his World Championship debut in December 2022, where he lost to Andrew Gilding in the first round. He signed with Red Dragon the same month.
In September 2023 he hit a nine-dart finish against Ritchie Edhouse at Players Championship 21, his first on the PDC tour.
How has Rob Owen played in 2025 and 2026?
He came into the 2025 World Championship as a late replacement for the suspended Dom Taylor. He beat Niels Zonneveld and 27th seed Gabriel Clemens, then beat Ricky Evans to keep his Tour Card. He led Callan Rydz 2-0 in the last 16 before losing 4-3. Iceland marked the run with a personalised delivery van.
At the 2025 UK Open he beat Michael van Gerwen 10-8 in the last 32 before losing 10-8 to James Wade. He was ranked 62nd on the PDC Order of Merit as at 18 October 2026.
What darts does Rob Owen use?
Owen has been sponsored by Red Dragon since December 2022 and plays Red Dragon signature darts. Red Dragon makes his signature dart in 22g with a 90% tungsten barrel. The weight he throws in matches isn't confirmed, so it isn't listed here.
