Who is Niels Zonneveld?

Niels Zonneveld is a professional darts player from Uitgeest in North Holland, born in 1998. He throws left-handed. His nickname, Triple Z, is short for "Zig Zag Zonneveld", a name some commentators gave him because of the way his elbow moves when he throws. He chose it in 2021, having played without a nickname until then.

How did he break through?

Zonneveld won a PDC Tour Card on the first day of the 2019 European Q-School. He won events on the PDC Development Tour in 2018 and 2021, and reached the quarter-finals of the 2021 World Series of Darts Finals, beating Gary Anderson on the way.

His ranking climbed in 2024, when he reached the semi-finals of the Czech Darts Open on the European Tour.

How has Niels Zonneveld played in 2026?

2026 has been his best season. At the World Championship he reached the third round for the first time, losing 4-3 to Jonny Clayton. In March he beat Michael van Gerwen 6-2 at the European Darts Trophy in Göttingen with a 104.46 average, and he reached two European Tour semi-finals in the spring, beating Luke Littler in one of them.

In October he reached the quarter-finals of his first World Grand Prix, beating Gary Anderson 3-1 in the first round before losing to Luke Humphries. Later in October he won the Dutch Darts Championship in Maastricht, his first European Tour final and first PDC ranking title. He beat Gerwyn Price, Wessel Nijman and Stephen Bunting, then came from 2-0 down to beat Danny Noppert 8-5 in an all-Dutch final. He became the first Dutch winner of the event, and the title earned him a first place at the Grand Slam of Darts.

He was ranked 29th on the PDC Order of Merit as at 18 October 2026.
