Who is Andrew Gilding?

Andrew Gilding is a professional darts player born in Norfolk in 1970. He throws right-handed and played on the BDO circuit, winning the Gibraltar Open in 2011, before joining the PDC in 2012. He held a PDC Tour Card from 2012 to 2018, lost it, and won it back at Q School in 2021.

His nickname comes from a set of gold Phil Taylor darts he bought early in his playing days, and his surname fitted the theme. He walks on to Gold by Spandau Ballet.

How did Andrew Gilding break through?

Gilding won the 2023 UK Open in Minehead at the age of 52, his first major title. He beat Michael van Gerwen 11-10 in the final, coming from 8-5 and 9-7 down, after earlier wins over Martin Schindler and Adam Gawlas. His previous best at a major had been a UK Open semi-final in 2015.

He has since reached the World Matchplay quarter-finals twice. In 2024 he beat Peter Wright and Krzysztof Ratajski to get there, and in 2025 he lost 16-14 to Luke Littler in the last eight.

How has Andrew Gilding played in 2026?

At the 2026 World Championship he beat eighth seed Chris Dobey in the second round before losing to Luke Woodhouse in the third round. In May 2026 he won Players Championship 16 in Leicester, beating Jonny Clayton 8-3 in the final. It was his first Pro Tour title, at his 442nd attempt. Later that month he reached the final of Players Championship 18, losing 8-4 to Woodhouse.

He was ranked 27th on the PDC Order of Merit as at 18 October 2026.
