Who is Alan Soutar?

Alan Soutar is a professional darts player based in Arbroath on Scotland's east coast, born in 1978. He throws right-handed and is known as "Soots". He started playing darts as a boy in his grandparents' pub in Arbroath, and he runs a darts academy for young players in the town.

Before darts became his career he served as a commando, then joined the fire service. He is a firefighter with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and he and his partner help raise guide dog puppies at home.

How did he break through?

Soutar played for Scotland on the BDO and WDF circuits, winning the WDF World Cup team title with Scotland in 2013 and the Helvetia Open in 2019. In February 2021 he won a PDC Tour Card at UK Q-School and signed with Mission the same month.

His first PDC World Championship, the 2022 edition, took him to the last 16, and he reached the last 16 again a year later. In between he made the quarter-finals of the 2022 Grand Slam of Darts. He won his first PDC title at Players Championship 11 in Hildesheim in June 2024, beating Daryl Gurney 8-7 in a deciding leg.

How has Alan Soutar played in 2026?

At the 2026 World Championship he reached the second round, where Gian van Veen beat him 3-1. On 30 March he reached the final of Players Championship 7 in Leicester, where Ryan Searle beat him 8-3. He was ranked 60th on the PDC Order of Merit as at 18 October 2026.

What darts does Alan Soutar use?

Soutar plays 24g Mission darts. He has been with Mission since February 2021, and in February 2025 the brand extended his contract for several years in a new player ambassador role. Mission's current Alan Soutar signature model is the Soots: a straight barrel with a bull nose, radial grooves with micro-cuts along its full length, and a blue and white electroplated finish. His signature flights carry a design that reflects his Scottish heritage and marks Arbroath. Mission doesn't state which points and shafts he plays.

We don't currently stock his signature darts. For a similar setup, see the Mission darts range or all steel tip darts.
